it means little

to those in pain

when you sympathize

out of empty courtesy


even joyful celebration

shared by everyone

is composed of each person's

own degree of happiness


joy and pain

each too private to to be comprehended

even as they are held in  common

are our own gleam on other's shine


thus it means little to say or do

anything we all know to be true
