I've dealt enough with smug egos

impervious to anything

but assaults on their vanity--

let them spin

any excuse they will--

let them believe

in their own power--

since no one can be reasoned with

in any case--just as well avoid

the whole business

and love the solitude

that reminds you of your

true station
