I stopped worrying over

what others thought of me


when I did good to someone

for the right reasons


and all these ignorant kibitzers

ascribed selfish motives to the act


to think on its binds me to them

in a false brotherhood of selfishness and shame


I have my own failings

I don't need to be burdened by theirs


let them fill their emptiness

with a mirage of other's imagined lives


they will still be empty

while the rest will be open to receive....
