this is as far as I take it...
either a way opens on this same path
or I'm obliged to go a different way
and since the conditions of this life
are as intractable as heartless vengeance
does it matter which way I go?
long as I'm in this fate all catastrophe will prevail
and any intent to reform and repent
will see all earthly power spent
to be renewed and carried forward
to a time when I just barely hope
I'll be strong and wise and brave enough
in some future dispensation
and with speculation I'm as far as I can take it...
