at what point did I lose your confidence?

one joke too many in place of a genuine response?

a pile-up of insensitivities I thought was exposure of a Truth?

I confess to honest contrition

but tracing the strains of misconduct

is taking longer than I'm comfortable with

when did I lose my respect for myself?

before or after your heart broke

and you realized things would not improve?

at some point our spirits

will face each other without rancor

and what tore in the flesh will bemuse in the mind

as we ponder the finer points of forgiveness

and render all that came before rank misunderstanding of intent...
