Jesus has told us

that even up to the very

last of days

people would work

would play would wed

would have children

would be following

their daily lives

in their very

own destinies


well

here we are

doing just that

as if nothing would

ever be any different

it's always been

as it is

live while you can

and live until you die


what were you expecting?

a special effects extravaganza

with the fantastic destruction

of people and cities

the projections

of fairy-tale ideas of apocalypse


even in disaster

our ends are quiet and personal

and our last scares

will be shame in facing

who will come to meet us

as the other side of life

opens on to us

and shame

for all we thought we knew

better about...


whatever notions of death

frighten you

know Life Itself

in Its ordinary playing out

is the ultimate in agony

we could imagine


and probably not nearly

as destructive as we in our ignorance

fear and loathe


live until you die

then die in consolation


and live again...
