doesn't know
vengeance is precisely
what will drive us from
devotion and service
because we cannot equate
this unmerciful weighting
of scales beyond our knowing
with these vows of love and forgiveness
then who could complain
when we turn from the Lord
to be punished for trying to live
exactly as we are commanded to
because it is the right thing to do?
what is it about power
that is so evil even good must obey?
