you knit your chain of consequence
one terrible link at a time
and you wear it like a coat of arms
while you live in the earth
but it will bog down your soul
when death releases you
then will it be the drag that holds you back
a king of the world reduced to a humbled penitent
but you never learned sufficiently
that the least are the greatest
that humility is the only thing
that will keep you to your track onward
to other forms of repentance
and other opportunities to free yourself
