heartbeats fading in the western world
the american empire is finally falling
brought down by its own insufferably
vain and stupid citizenry
it was bound to happen eventually
there never was any golden age of principled
compromise for the good of all
every swing of the pendulum
delivered an agenda good enough
to raise the ire of its opponents
until compromises were nothing more
than weak treaties to allow foes to regroup
democracy never quite took hold here
and now america takes its place in the waste of history
