pompous eminences
speculate on their betters
over-praise or under-value
in an effort to kill their fathers
take the academic who disregards the facts
of his subject's life so it would fit
a theory of his own projection
or the critic who bares a hatchet
for no better reason than
self-elevation and applause...
this is how they buff their glory
pitiful and small as their yearnings
and make straw gods out of the leavings
of their most trivial enemies
