self-righteousness is the trap

the snare that nails you in your self-holiness


and while you protest that you're no better

than anyone else the very statement reveals your pride


humility undone by acknowledgment of humility

and every prayer for deliverance just another


advertisement of self self self self self

as if others were bit players in your own melodrama


oh dangerous ground for the self-centered soul

to trod in a void that supports nothing


but its actual non-existence

and instead of giving in and flowing with it


it's your very ego that makes you dissolve

into it like an antacid in a glass of water
