I gave in far too many times
to keep peace
to soothe intractable egos
to work benefit for the bystanders
where there was none
but I was meant to stand down and suffer
and the raging egos confronted and suffered
and the bystanders too were meant
to be there to atone as collateral damage...
each of there to do as we may
and were it not for previous failures of nerve
we may well now be repeating
we'd all be standing elsewhere
in others in a separate knot of obligation
