we've been told endlessly
love God with your whole being
and your neighbor as yourself...
we invoke the Golden Rule
because we will reap what we sow
all well and good but yet...it would take
a deeper love and a stauncher compassion
and frankly a total spiritual overhaul
to transform this laundry list of cliches
into a philosophy that will sustain us for life
