who gathers the days

gathers the content of the soul

and all we know

of what we know

is the identity we wore

through the happenings

we now call memory

the personality reflecting

between those moments

that make us what we became

to be gathered when our days

are done and gathered

oh how much then we will remember

and wish we couldn't

how much then no denial will undo

nor cast of character disown

how much then will we

await the gathering by what will finally

release us to our only posterity

how much then in this world

beyond so beyond recall
