when the prodigal returns...
when the wraecca is gathered back in
after years of suffering
and desolate wanderings
atoning for his pig-headed lack of loyalty
by an unexpectedly forgiving liege
who gouged his price for betrayal
and is now satisfied that the price is paid
and the lesson is learned
and the atonement is complete
that is when the wails cease
that is when the lamentations end
each of us comes back to this source
amended and pardoned
or rebellious to the end (even onto non-existence)
I in my wanderings
was still loved enough by those I thought lost
to choose the former
each of us on our intractable journeys back
allowed our finishes or our fresh starts
and that is when we know "home"
and that is when there's nothing more to say
