I pace my ordinary day
and fill my ordinary mind
with wonders I could only
take as vision or hallucination
because if I could avail myself entire
I'd be consumed in flame and smoke
and arise with Elijah's chariot
as one of his wheel's spokes
here then is where I contain
the wonders and measure them out
in the instants my being lives
in the vehicle of my ordinary mind
enduring my routine fate and relieved
I can only occupy the place where I stand
