in the grip of creation's duality
in the earth we are faced with two tyrannies
the reactionary tendency to freeze life
in some static vision of an imagined perfection
excluding all but the likes who adhere
to such a soul-destroying stasis
and the smug self-serving progressive action
of imposing a fantasy of conformity
as if enlightenment were a fiat accompli
to be followed on pain of rejection for our individuality
and since our worldly state is to grapple with these conditions
how can any of us really know
which adherent of which tendency will be
the enemy we face today?
