only our responses to life

are within our control


the rest is a bombardment

of our past sins or fresh hell


from assholes who'll never get it

and take as many down into


their own hells as they can manage

and those of us who know better


agonize because we know how easy

it is to slip and fall from an unconsidered action


an emotional reaction that will undo

all we've striven to make fundamental...


begin to amend with what is immediately at hand

and leave the rest to resolve itself....
