darkness and light

are two sides of a single reality


you cannot embrace one

without admitting the other


so when you're in darkness

and your eyes adjust


and you see things you never

before imagined


think of when you looked

into the light


and saw brightness so intense

it was as a darkness


and agonized over the blindness

your soul received as consequence
