the morning stars singing
the amber light of level sunlight
shining atop our earthly sea
and all the anger and stress and sorrow
faded like a disturbing dream
and my bed felt like a beach and my breathing
caught the damp salt freshness of that sea
I awoke as if I were new
though I was still me and the peace was as ever
the stillness against which we sleep and wake
praying the One our souls to take
then wiping sleep from my eyes
I was still me but different in the stillness....
