how peaceful the world
when people stay in their homes
latch the door
double-turn the lock
it keeps the streets free
for old-time lone wolfs like me
to prowl unmolested
through city forests more dangerous
then the wilderness regions on maps
and in their cold patient pulsing
through everyone's bloodlines
whatever cubicle they inhabit
or whatever street lies open they roam desolate
and wise to the emptiness of what they call 'freedom'
