it just that once I fibbed

the tall tale took on

a life of its own

and suddenly I was

what I pretended to be

and called on to declare and defend

as if I were going

for my doctorate

except I has no expertise in the matter

I was a kibbitzing clown

who didn't know his voice was heard

and now would be called on to testify
