I'm sorry we are not of a God

who is more proactive

and less hands-off concerning

the aid we need to live


but nothing we do is perfect enough

to amend and to atone and gain grace

not even a graduated approach moves the heartlessness

of a God who is all or nothing


the old saying says "God's Will is our woe"

I wish I were settled enough in my soul

to bear this fatal view of God's so-called

love and wholeness and harmony and goodness


I'm sorry we are of God if this is how it is

where pain and suffering is considered a blessing
