a lifetime of deadly sleep
reduces you to this shoreline
where you sit up on the sands
of dull-sunned gray-metal morning at seaside
awakening at last and too late for this skin
but always the hope the carry-over will be less
than expected should I lug it forward to make amends
of this dawning of lethal consciousness
