MY OWN DEVICES

left to my own devices

I'd as soon drift away

from the daily confusion

of invincible ignorance


not to escape any conditions

of earth but to view it

from a vantage of remorse

that all souls must feel


when they finally wise up

and know what good they manage

cannot be measured by the terms

we understand of loss and gain


left to my own devices

I'd just as well lay paralyzed under

a layer of oppressive sky


that would open up to some

impossible unknown we carry

within us despite our dangerous ignorance
