I thought it mattered whether right mattered--
I thought I'd add my voice to our choice
and through the years--here and there--
I found a few who agreed
and we acknowledged to each other we agreed--
and as we parted we thought it important
that we acknowledged the choice of right--
and through the years this convention
wore as thin as the edge of a collar--
right and wrong indistinguishable--
I thought I'd remove my voice from the clamor--
I thought vows mattered only when they mattered--
I thought it was no longer important
