(going back to school weather--though it was
August 4th)
in the pale twilight--she came out of Alexander's
on Fordham and the Concourse--
brown haired young beauty
who ignored us as she passed the project bench
that was the center of our social world--
our eyes met for a second and she turned and walked
south toward 188th--
I floated back for the early friday evening hanging-out--
the hijinks particularly spirited that night--
and later in bed--her my total awareness
as a last quarter moon rose outside my window
37 years ago...
