THE SHIFT

afraid to let go

afraid not to...

and though you

stand still

your here is

no longer here

as all things

shift around you....

FREQUENCY EVER TOO HIGH

I await a symbol that will put my mind

in its highest state and most revved-up gear

decoded into mere human understanding

enough to act and make move on its mission

a symbol as some truth

translated into an understanding

but still something lost in translation

that bedevils sleep and haunted wakening in sadness

it's a Saturday afternoon in early fall

an (what do we call it now?) Indian summer day

or would be if we'd had a first frost already

(forget St. Martin's Day and the third warm week

in November...few remember that)

and everyone outside and

they wouldn't care and wouldn't dare

disturb their own peace to anything but enjoy the day....

ROOT TOOT TOOT

common sins

stain us all

we sniff and lick

and work our snouts

beneath the rags and root

toot toot

until we're wet and sticky

and delighted....

WAITING FOR A POTATO TO BOIL

I unleashed

a load of spontaneously perceived poems

and recorded them here...now...

while waiting for a potato to finish boiling...

one has no idea when inspiration

will come and kick in a door

while you're busy with the mundane

and totally unsatisfying....

MORE MATES THAN YOU COULD COUNT

on your wedding day

I hope you leave a vent

in your gown open

to air out

that swamp that saw

so much plunging and flushing

back when you'd take on

more mates than you could count....

you think that no one loves you

for once you're right

did you really think your treachery

would be so easily excused for your crocodile tears?

as if death turned fools and scoundrels instantly

into saints....
